1976 年， 走藝術搖滾路線的 Kansas 以第四張專輯中的暢銷曲" Carry on wayward son "終於在排行榜上嶄露頭角，樂團不久以後隨即開始錄製下一張專輯。當整張專輯錄製接近尾聲，有一天，團中靈魂人物 Kerry Livgren 拿起木吉他，唱出一首他最近完成的歌給團員們聽，這首歌就是" Dust in the wind 風中之塵 "。
這首歌的寫作靈感來自 Kerry Livgren 閱讀的一本詩集，是位具有原住民血統的美國詩人的作品，其中有一行詩句《 For all we are is dust in the wind 》，令他思及人生在世，無論賢昧智愚、風光落魄，終需一死，感嘆之餘，寫下了這首醒世歌曲。
由於和樂團過去作品的風格差異頗大，Kerry Livgren 並不準備將這一首作品放在專輯裡，孰料四位團員聽過之後，異口同聲表示非錄製這首歌不可。於是在大家的堅持下，這首歌終於收錄在" Point of no return "這張專輯中。
" Dust in the wind 風中之塵 "是他們第一首不插電的歌曲，雖然是趕上末班車，卻成為堪薩斯合唱團最受歡迎的單曲，是 70 年代最具代表性的歌曲之一。即便是現今的西洋老歌合輯，它很少會被遺漏。

5. Joan Baez - Donna Donna (1960)

關於納粹德國屠殺猶太人的歷史悲劇，你可能早已知之甚詳，但你很可能還不知道，這首由Joan Baez在四十多年前所唱紅的Donna Donna就是翻唱自猶太民族的一首以色列民謠。
Donna Donna在以色列語言中含有自由的意思。
悠揚的歌聲中敘述著出生就知道自己註定終將難逃被宰殺命運的小牛，望著天上自由飛翔的燕子，那種既無奈又淒涼的心情，歌詞中隱含著對身在自由的人往往不懂得珍惜自由可貴的深沉感嘆，在Joan Baez那略帶著淡淡哀傷的柔美歌聲中，除了令人感動，也頗能引人更多的省思。
這首歌最原始的版本是在二次世界 大戰期間，以 Yiddish(意帝緒語)這種德國的猶太人語言所寫成的，這首歌曲的原始義涵是在諷刺當年德國的納粹主義者在屠殺猶太人的瘋狂行徑，歌詞的內容描述著一 隻名叫 Dona(多娜)的小牛來影射無助的猶太人，正被載往市集販賣屠殺時是如此的悲傷與無奈，但是風兒(納粹主義者)卻在牠身邊高聲嘲笑著，而農夫(那押解猶太人的納粹爪牙)則對牠說不要抱怨，誰叫你是一隻小牛呢。這首歌後來直到 1960 年代的時候，才被翻譯成英文版並且陸續由幾位美國的歌手所演唱，從此開始流行至全世界成為世界民謠。

"Vincent" is a song by Don McLean written as a tribute to Vincent van Gogh. It is also known by its opening line， "Starry Starry Night"， a reference to van Gogh's painting The Starry Night. The song also describes different paintings done by the artist.
McLean wrote the lyrics in 1971 after reading a book about the life of the artist. The following year， the song became the number one hit in the U.K..
